Vote.
The environment matters in the voting booth, too.
Getting around, finding a home, protecting the land, producing energy and adapting to climate change: behind the slogans are choices that shape our everyday lives.
Before voting, let’s take the time to understand the issues and compare the proposals.
English-language resources are linked where available. Links labelled “in French only” lead to French-language content.
A non-partisan approach
Vire au vert does not endorse any political party or candidate. We bring environmental issues into the conversation and share resources to help you make your own choice.
Vote Compass results, AI responses and comparisons produced by outside organizations are not voting recommendations from the coalition. Cross-check your sources and keep a critical eye.

Vote Compass
This questionnaire helps you see how your views compare with the major parties’ positions on a range of issues. Select the 2026 Quebec election on the Vote Compass website.
Keep in mind: the questions selected and the way positions are represented affect the result. Your priorities may not all be covered. Use it as a starting point, then explore platforms and debates.

Compare party platforms
CBC’s English-language comparison brings together party commitments by topic. Explore the environment, energy and transportation to compare proposals.
Keep in mind: a comparison reflects the promises that have been announced and recorded. A measure missing from the tool may appear elsewhere in a platform. Check the original documents, too.

Environmental platforms and commitments
Your choices on the ballot extend beyond the parties invited to the televised debates. This directory covers the 20 parties that fielded candidates in 2026, according to the list published by Élections Québec. Parties are listed alphabetically by their commonly used French names.
A commitment may appear in an environmental plan, a general platform or a policy page. “Not found” means the document was not found in the sources consulted; it does not mean it does not exist or that the party has no position. Documents published before 2026 are identified.
Document review: October 1, 2026. English-language resources checked on October 2, 2026. Party websites and documents may change.

This directory describes available documents; it does not rate the parties. When comparing commitments, ask: what measures, what budget, what timeline and how will results be tracked?
Independent candidates are also running. Check the candidates in your electoral division to see who will be on your ballot and learn about their commitments.
Artificial intelligence in the election
Your vote deserves reliable sources.
AI can produce a convincing comparison in seconds. That does not guarantee reliable sources, an accurate answer or a complete picture of the choices. Start with platforms, debates, news outlets and organizations whose work you can verify.

What the Quebec election audit found
In its September 18, 2026 update, the Observatory presents a survey and an audit of ChatGPT and Google’s AI tools. Three findings call for caution:
- AI is already widely used. About one in five survey respondents said they had used AI to learn about the election.
- Weak sources can carry significant weight. A recently created, anonymous website built with AI appeared in 39% of ChatGPT’s answers to the comparison and voting-advice questions studied. Missing information on that website can lead the model to leave parties out of its recommendations.
- Even voting procedures can be misreported. The audit found errors despite references to Élections Québec.
These observations concern the tools and questions tested on September 10 and 11, 2026. They do not measure every possible answer from every AI system.

- Open the cited sources. Check who wrote them, when they were published and which passage supports the answer.
- Look for what is missing. Which parties and positions were left out? Ask for documents to compare rather than advice on who to vote for.
- For where, when and how to vote, consult Élections Québec. An AI answer is no substitute for official voting information.
A real environmental cost
These tools rely on servers, electricity and equipment that must be manufactured. Their footprint also includes water used for cooling and manufacturing, raw material extraction and electronic waste. The United Nations Environment Programme calls for looking at the entire life cycle.
For all data centres worldwide, the International Energy Agency projects electricity consumption of around 950 TWh in 2030, compared with 485 TWh in 2025. The impact of an individual use varies with the model, the task and the energy used.
When a document directly answers your question, reading it avoids an additional AI generation. University oversight does not eliminate an AI tool’s environmental footprint.

Prof. Datagotchi: references you can check
Developed by a Université Laval research team and its partners, this chatbot draws on documented political sources: platforms, news releases, public statements and media coverage. Its answers include references you can consult.
That traceability makes verification easier. It does not guarantee an accurate, complete or unbiased answer. The tool is in beta: check the documents, dates and parties covered, and apply the same critical thinking.

Behind Vire au vert
One coalition, complementary expertise
Vire au vert brings together environmental and civil society organizations. Their expertise in health, water, biodiversity, mobility, land use, energy, agriculture, waste and community action helps explain how the environment connects to our everyday lives.
Partners share information, propose ways to act and mobilize people to bring these issues into public debate. The coalition does not tell you who to vote for. Explore their resources and analysis to inform your own thinking.
